In this directory you find ready-to-run distributions of Freeciv for Microsoft Windows systems. 1) The GTK+ 2.0 client: freeciv-1.14.1-gtk.exe # GTK+ 2.0 interface For this version, you must also install GTK+ (from http://www.dropline.net/gtk/). It is the GTK+ 2.0 Unix/Linux client, recompiled for Windows. It has only been tested on Windows 2000 and Windows XP and may utterly fail on other Windows versions. 2) The native Win32 client: freeciv-1.14.1-win32.exe # native Win32 interface freeciv-1.14.1-win32.zip # id., in a ZIPfile This is a real port, with certain differences in functionality. It does not require additional software to be installed. Its homepage is at http://www.informatik.uni-bremen.de/~akemnade/civhome.html There exists a third way to run Freeciv on Microsoft Windows: under Cygwin (www.cygwin.com), using an X server (e.g. XFree86 as distributed with Cygwin). This requires compiling Freeciv from source; it is not recommended, except as a portability test. See also http://www.freeciv.org/windows/
