============================================================================== Freeciv 1.14.2 Slackware packages (24 Oct 2004) notes ============================================================================== Packaged by Martin Mitas This README is stored in freeciv-common package as file named /usr/doc/freeciv-1.14.2/README.slackware. These packages were built on Slackware 10.0. They may not work on older versions of Slackware. Installation ------------ Following packages are available: freeciv-common-1.14.2-i386-1.tgz contains files (like locales, data files and documentation) needed by all other packages freeciv-server-1.14.2-i386-1.tgz contains Freeciv server freeciv-client-xaw3d-1.14.2-i386-1.tgz contains Freeciv Xaw3D client freeciv-client-gtk2-1.14.2-i386-1.tgz contains Freeciv Gtk+ 2.x client freeciv-common-sound-1.14.2-i386-1.tgz contains sounds (optional for clients) Only one client package is needed. Client binaries are civclient-xaw3d and civclient-gtk2. Last installed client package will create symlink civclient. Xaw3D client requires xfree86 and xaw3d packages to be installed. GTK+ client requires xfree86 and gtk+2 packages. Both clients require sdl package to be installed. Everything is installed under /usr hierarchy. Installation (for upgrade see following chapter) is done with command (run it as root): installpkg For example: installpkg freeciv-common-1.14.2-i386-1.tgz Upgrade from previous package version ------------------------------------- Execute as root: upgradepkg For example: upgradepkg freeciv-common-1.14.2-i386-1.tgz Upgrade from older or 3rd-party packages ---------------------------------------- Because there are so many versions of Freeciv packages around, I suggest to remove them before installing new packages. Use following commands (as root) to get rid of all those old packages: # cd /var/log/packages; removepkg *freeciv* Then proceed to normal installation as describe above. Bugs and suggestions -------------------- Bugs and suggestions relating to Freeciv play should be mailed to bugs@freeciv.org. Any questions or bugs regarding Slackware packages should be mailed to slack-freeciv@srnet.cz. See http://www.freeciv.org for further information on Freeciv.
